If you live in regions with long summers like me, you will probably understand what made me pay tribute to my car air conditioning. I can’t imagine having to drive to the office every day in this hot and humid weather without my trusted AC car. I am sure that there are millions of people who will agree with me when I say that car air conditioning is not an accessory, but a necessity. In hot climates, air conditioning can make your trip enjoyable even if you are not driving a luxury car. It is imperative that you feel comfortable while driving, and any problems in this regard can be distracting. With air conditioning, you can be sure that you will not complain about the weather. This, of course, will allow you to focus on driving and enjoy it. Let’s discuss how a car air conditioner works and what we can do to service it. Car air conditioning is responsible for cooling and draining the car’s interior. It operates by a simple process of removing heat from the cab to the outside, This is achieved by obtaining energy from an automobile engine to operate its main components, that is, a compressor, a condenser and an evaporator. In fact, it is the compressor that is connected to the car engine and acts as a pump that circulates the refrigerants in the AC system. Refrigerant gas flows in a closed loop from a condenser (located outside the cab) to an evaporator (located inside the cab). The pressure generated by the compressor drives gaseous refrigerant throughout the system. For this reason, the compressor is called the heart of the air conditioning system. The pattern flows like this; gaseous refrigerant is compressed by the compressor and transferred to the condenser. The gas here condenses to cool it and increase its density. The cooled refrigerant enters the receiver-dryer (part of the system that eliminates moisture in the gas). Cold refrigerant then flows into the evaporator. The refrigerant flows through the narrow tubular design of the evaporator coil at 0 degrees Celsius. A fan located behind the cold coil of the evaporator directs cold air into the cabin through the ventilation holes in the dashboard to provide immediate cooling. There is also a dehumidification process that occurs when warm air inside the cabin comes in contact with the cold surface of the evaporator. All impurities and dust particles in the cabin-air stick to the evaporator and are lost together with the formation of moisture on the surface of the evaporator, The refrigerant that heats up in this process returns to the condenser and cools again. This continuous cycle provides a cooling effect inside your car when you turn on the car air conditioning. Although using AC means increasing fuel consumption because it is powered by a car’s engine, believe me, sometimes it’s just worth it. I always advise people to use their car air conditioning wisely so they don’t mourn the fuel efficiency. A climate control system or automatic cooling in your car means that the air conditioner always works to keep the temperature inside your car at a constant level. If you can afford it, then you should let your car air conditioner do this, but if you want to save fuel, here’s what you can do. Maintain the speed of your car air conditioner at lower levels while driving and increase the level when the vehicle is standing (for example, at a traffic light) This will increase fuel efficiency while maintaining the cooling of your car cab. Use heat-reflecting film (transparent or tinted) on the windows of your car. This will help keep the cabin cool for longer periods of time, reducing the frequent use of the air conditioner. Service your car air conditioning every six months to keep it at peak performance. This will increase the efficiency of your car and save a lot of fuel. When it comes to the maintenance of your car air conditioner, follow these basic steps to make the best use of it: Check the refrigerant level in the air conditioning system to avoid additional load on the engine. Replace refrigerant if necessary. Check the compressor drive belt (which connects the compressor to the engine) for signs of damage and check for any changes in belt tension. The belt may dry out from time to time, but you can apply a drop of oil to it from time to time to keep it moist. Check all hoses and connecting pipes for hardening, bubbles, cracks and leaks. Repair minor damage as soon as possible to avoid serious damage. In addition to these checks, you can maintain the coolant pressure in the air conditioner by performing it for 10 minutes every month at maximum speed and at the lowest settings. It will also prevent hardening and cracking of the hoses while eliminating any blockages, dust, microorganisms and mold. While you are doing this, make sure that all the windows of the machine are open and that no one is inside. With some basic care, you can take advantage of your car air conditioner for a long time and not spend anything on its maintenance or repair.
